Like it’s important to take care of our bodies, it’s also important to take care of the environment. Of course it’s cliché, but we can all do our part. Besides, what could make you feel better than doing what’s best for yourself and doing what’s best for the planet at the same time?

People are becoming more and more conscious of green fitness and eco friendly health. The following are some tips you can use to make sure that you train effectively while ensuring you’re looking out for mother nature at the same time.

1. Use a water bottle, not bottled water.
2. Buy in bulk, whether it’s your food or supplements.
3. Look for an eco friendly gym. Talk to the front desk staff about what the gym is doing to be sustainable..
4. Pack your food in a cooler or a lunch kit, not a plastic or paper bag.
5. Do your cardio without a machine, such as stairs, running, skipping rope, cross country skiing, etc.
6. Ensure your gym is nearby where you live.
7. Buy food locally whenever possible.
8. Spray equipment down with liquid free of harsh chemicals.
9. Use Tupperware when storing food.
10. Park the car and use your bike for an extra workout.
11. If working out at home, do it in a room with windows so you don’t need to use artificial lighting,
12. Consider renting equipment if possible.
13. Buy shoes with recycled rubber soles.
14. Buy steel frame equipment over aluminum equipment whenever possible.
15. Donate equipment you no longer use.
16. Avoid any equipment or gear made from PVC plastic.
17. Buy yoga mats made from plant-based materials.
18. Eat organic.
19. Charge your iPod with a solar charger.
20. Get your protein from less meat sources.
21. If you’re buying equipment, buy it used
