Homemade Protein Bars
Of the recipes for a healthy eating plan, this may be the one you'll use the most. Homemade protein bars are a great option since this recipe will not only save you money in comparison to the store bought variety. They will also have significantly less sugar and preservatives, which is key in the fitness recipes you'll find on this site.
These homemade protein bars are served about 10 to 15 minutes when taken out of your freezer or fridge.
Yield: 8 bars
(this recipe doubles very well and will keep you and your honey snacking well for a week!)
3 cups old fashion or rolled oats oatmeal
½ cup natural nut butter
1 cup skim milk
4 scoops protein powder
Dash cinnamon, optional
4-8 packets Splenda, optional
Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with Pam, set aside.
Spray a large mixing bowl with Pam. Combine all ingredients until a sticky batter forms. Use a large spoon to spread out the mixture into the baking dish. Press down with the bottom of a dampened glass until the tops smooths and spreads out. Top with the cinnamon and Splenda, if desired. (I find this plenty sweet enough without these extra toppings!)
Place in fridge or freezer overnight. Cut into 8 equal bars, individually wrap, and store in freezer. These keep very well in the freezer; let thaw about 15 minutes before eating.
